ABOUT
Joana Nastari (She/Her) is a fully qualified Intimacy Coordinator for screen and games, and an Intimacy Director for stage, based in the UK.
She trained with Intimacy Directors and Coordinators (IDC) and received year long mentorship leading industry professional Sam Murray (Disclaimer – Apple TV, The Mother – Netflix, The Gold – BBC) and additional mentorship and shadowing with Tommy Ross-Williams (The Fantastic Four – Marvel/Apple TV, Juice – BBC, Sweetpea – Sky).
Joana brings a distinctive, multidisciplinary perspective to her work, grounded in over a decade of professional experience across stage and screen. Her background as an actor and theatre-maker, combined with training in dance and physical theatre, underpins her choreographic practice with a deep understanding of embodied storytelling.
As a playwright and screenwriter, Joana is passionate about intimate scenes that are rich in narrative and character. She has a particular focus on authentic, nuanced depictions of queer storylines, and stories involving strip clubs and sex work.
Her earlier experience in trade union organising continues to shape her values-led, collaborative approach — with consent, communication, and care at the core of every creative process. She works from a trauma-informed, actor-centred framework, committed to fostering safe, respectful, and empowering environments for all cast and crew.
Joana is also highly skilled in leadership as a Head of Department, ensuring clear communication and seamless coordination across production teams. She supports Producers with risk assessments and planning, and works closely with Directors, Showrunners, and key departments to deliver intimate content safely, ethically, and in alignment with the creative vision for the project.
She is an active member of BECTU’s Intimacy & Gaming working group, helping shape best practices in this emerging area of the industry.
Joana’s credits span film, television, theatre, musicals, games, commercials, drama schools, and youth productions. Her approach is always project-specific, adapting sensitively to the distinct needs of each production and the individuals involved.
